My simple history…

At an early age, I simply wanted a flower shop of my own. I got my start and appreciation when my mother grew the most incredible white roses which the fragrance still lingers in my mind. Clipper in hand standing in the warm sun mom would let me cut them if I would make her a bouquet to grace her piano with. Between her playing the piano and the fragrance of the roses will forever stay with me.

After leaving home I ventured out into the world by working on cruise ships.  On my free time, I went out looking for the most interesting and beautiful blooms in each port of call. From public Denmark Gardens, Royal Palace gardens and fields of tulips in Holland. Apprenticing wherever I can. This opportunity led me to live in Europe for several years continuing my quest for that special bloom.  Being in Europe gave me the opportunity to see and experience different flower shops.  One shop that stood out for me was this tiny flower shop packed with tons of blooms and a very inviting black and white stripe awning out front.  Back then we didn’t have the digital cameras…. Otherwise this picture I would post.  Just imagine the scent and beautiful bright colors pressed into one room. But, most important, when you are there it’s an essential part of one’s life having fresh cut flowers in your home.

Returning home I went back to school to familiarize myself with American floral design and business. With a touch of past lived adventures in my style, at last, my flower shop ‘Plateau Florist’ came along. We were established in 1998.

When I say ‘We’ Family and my dearest friend Valerie, built the business together. Valerie pushed me to succeed in my dream and never doubted that I could really make my dream a reality. For this, I am grateful for her encouraging words and the stability I needed. My mother was my biggest fan, as an artist in her own right she painted the most beautiful mural of my logo on the side of the cooler, just before my grand opening! The mural now graces a wall in my home in memory of my mother. Before her passing, for old memory sake, I kept tradition and a promise that I would give her white roses any time she wanted.

In 2006, we moved from Issaquah/Sammamish Plateau to a new location in Bellevue, WA. In a more private setting. We have created a fabulous design area, a large walk-in cooler and a gorgeous showroom where we meet our Brides. We continue to serve all our clients with Everyday fresh flowers and more quality time for our Brides.

Someone asked me what is your mission statement? I said it’s very simple,

“To make one’s life more beautiful, through one bloom at a time”
